About Kenton, TN…
Kenton is a town in Tennessee with a population of about 1,211. Kenton is just one of four communities in the United States that has a large population of white squirrels. It was estimated that there were about 200 squirrels in 2006 – which is about one for every six residents. The town celebrates this anomaly each year with its annual White Squirrel Festival held during the week of July 4th.
Tennessee Fun Fact:
Tennesseeans are sometimes referred to as Butternuts, a tag which was first applied to Tennessee soldiers during the Civil War because of the tan color of their uniforms.
